In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Applies the principles of product quality planning, evaluation, and control in support of the manufacturing and installation operations of the organization.

  • Responsible for applicable systems related to plant customer issues such as corrective action requests, supplier corrective action requests, nonconforming material reports, etc.

  • Leads containment activities.

  • Facilitates continuous improvement quality activities to reduce the potential for defects, and ensures continual improvement in process and product design.

  • Ensures products and process development meet quality standards.

  • Identifies problems, prioritizes actions, leads or participates in Six Sigma projects.

  • Participates in change management activities by verifying products and processes, developing key measures, analyzing data for decision support, and presenting results to plant leadership.

  • Leads audits of processes and quality systems.

  • Works with purchasing to improve the quality of purchased parts.

  • Serves as a quality technical resource to other functional areas.

  • May coach and mentor less experienced quality engineers.

Skills

  • Production Part Approval Process - Coordinates the level of submission of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities and information related to the introduction of new or changed products and processes; dispositions the product’s readiness for production in accordance with the Production Parts Approval Process (PPAP) and APQP provisions of Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) manuals and Cummins procedures in order to meet supplier and customer requirements.

  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

  • Quality Leadership (Cummins Operating System) - Demonstrates knowledge of Cummins Operating Systems (COS); applies Total Quality Management (TQM) principles and customer centric mindset; uses COS and TQM practices to assess performance, set strategy aligned with business need and create consistency of purpose for continuously improving products, processes, services; enables data driven proactive decision making to achieve zero defects and removes barriers to enable line of sight to customers; uses metrics to drive continuous improvement.

  • Problem Solving - Solves problems using a systematic analysis process by leveraging industry standard methodologies to create problem traceability and protect the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

  • Advanced Product Quality Planning - Leads the technical quality planning and ensures customer satisfaction through structured and measurable processes as defined by industry standard.

  • Measurement Science - Analyzes measurement processes throughout the relevant traceability chain to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty relevant to the appropriate applied measurement science, “Metrology” e.g. Chemical, Dimensional, Electrical, Mechanical, Optical and Radiation and Physical.

  • Quality System Management - Guides in the practice and application of quality management system standards required by international certification bodies, industry specific regulatory authorities and customer's contractually specified requirements.

  • Supplier Quality Management - Leads all aspects of supplier quality management; helps develop strategy and collaborative supplier partnerships; identifies supplier innovation capabilities; contributes to supplier audit and certification process; tracks supplier performance metrics and acts to quickly resolve issues to improve supplier quality performance.

  • Project Management - Establishes and maintains the balance of scope, schedule and resources for a temporary effort (a "project").

  • Statistical Foundations - Applies statistical tools and technique to influence decision making; leverages understanding of data collection methods, key statistics, graphical and analytical methods to describe process performance, gain insights and drive improvement action.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • College, university, or equivalent degree in required.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required.

  • This position is responsible for Fridley customer Quality (BIS) activities such as group leader, BIS KPI, corrective actions SCAR/CAR, participating and managing quality forums.

  • This role is responsible for commercial, new business (Hylyzer/Accelera) as well as consumer lines until transition.

  • This role will support customer audits/visits and document management system responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
